How to translate your messages in Queso

Queso translates as you chat, so you can talk to anyone in any language. Here's how it works, start to finish.

A Spanish conversation translated into English in Queso, with a reply sent back.
Incoming messages in your language, with a globe marking what was translated.

1. Just open a chat

There's nothing to switch on. Open any conversation and Queso detects the other person's language automatically the first time, then remembers it. Incoming messages appear translated into your language straight away.

2. See the original any time

Translated messages carry a small ๐ŸŒ globe. Tap any message to flip it to the original text โ€” handy for names, places or when you're learning the language โ€” and tap again to go back to the translation.

3. Reply in your own language

Type your reply exactly as you normally would. Before it sends, Queso translates it into the conversation's language and shows you the translation, so you're always in control of what goes out. Photo captions and files are translated too.

4. Choose how translation works

In Settings โ†’ Translation you choose your engine:

  • On-device (Apple) โ€” free, private and offline. Nothing leaves your iPhone. This is the default.
  • AI translation โ€” higher quality for idioms, nuance and long messages (part of Queso Pro). You can even bring your own OpenAI key.

Tip: set a conversation's language manually from the globe menu at the top of a chat if you ever want to override the automatic detection.

5. Change a conversation's language

Tap the flag or globe at the top of any chat to pick a different language for that conversation. Queso will translate both directions using your choice from then on.
